Anorexia Nervosa

What is anorexia nervosa?

Anorexia nervosa (often just called anorexia, though that really means "loss of appetite") is one of the eating disorders; one problem you might have if you have anorexia is that you might deny having it and may well think your diet and eating is normal. Do you restrict yourself to very small portions? Do you look at yourself in the mirror and think you're fat? Do you check calorie content and weight yourself often? You might well be depressed or low in mood and have low self-esteem

How do we treat or cure anorexia?

We treat anorexia by a mixture of cognitive changes and behavioural experiments. It is likely that your mood is generally low. You may have low self-esteem, which is reinforced by your current thinking and behaviour. Your might be perfectionist. You might have interpersonal problems meaning you find relationships with other people to be difficult. All these are treatable.
